2024 Mahei Shu Pu'er - Yiwu Terroir, Wild Forest Tea
Combining softness, depth, and a lasting inner strength, this Shupu is the perfect example of Yiwu-style fermented Pu'er tea. Created with the big leaves of wild trees growing in 麻黑 Mahei, a renowned Han village within Yiwu, and one of the most important origins for Pu’er tea. In China, there is a saying: “If you don’t know Mahei, you don’t truly know Yiwu tea.”
This Shu pu'er tea is made from trees grown in high mountain forests, offering a deep, complex character with a gentle expression and a strong, steady tea Qi. These trees are guarded and cared for by the fifth-generation tea-making family of Mr. He Tianqiang. As tea producer, he is a highly respected figure in the region, former secretary of Mahei village, one of the first organizers of the Yiwu Tea Association, and the founder of the Yiwu tea competition, which plays an important role in the Ancient Six Tea Mountains tradition.
This Shupu tea has a thick and full mouthfeel, where notes of resin are followed by a slight root-like bitterness, and a honeyed and floral sweetness in the aftertaste. The aroma of wet leaves reminds of wood and wild flowers, and the tea liquor colour is a rich, deep brown.
